Peggy Lee Peters, 69, of Americus, Kansas passed away December 8, 2019 at Council Grove Hospital. Peggy was born August 10, 1950 in Council Grove, KS to G. Dean Horton and Doris Horton (Peterson). She attended Council Grove High School and graduated in 1968.
She married the love of her life, Alan Peters December 21, 1969 in Council Grove, KS. While Alan was in the Navy they made their home in San Diego, California and Mayport & Orlando, Florida before moving to their home of over 40 years outside of Americus. They had two daughters, Ali Lee and Amanda Lee. They were married 13 days shy of 50 years.
Peggy attended Kansas State Teachers College before starting her lifelong career and passion working with the elderly. Peggy had a very special place in her heart for her old people, and gained lifelong friendships while she worked as the Site Manager of the Americus and then Council Grove Senior Centers for a combined total of over 20 years. She did take a short break during those years and worked in the cafeteria in the Council Grove School system, filling her heart with the joy and laughter of the students. But her heart remained with the elderly and she returned shortly after until she retired in 2015.
Peggy enjoyed the outdoors and loved going on motorcycle trips with family and friends. She and Alan enjoyed numerous trips on their trike, from California to Tennessee and everywhere in between. With family, and at the senior center, she enjoyed playing cards and never was outbid by anyone but her Dad. In her younger years her and Alan coached Ali’s softball teams growing up and loved being at the lake with family. She never missed any athletic events her daughters participated in, even following them both through their college events never missing a game. She continued this tradition and watched her oldest Grandson, Cody, in all of his sporting events.
Peggy was incredibly witty and had the funniest sense of humor. She had an infectious smile and laugh and loved life and her family. She was many times the organizer of getting the Horton “clan” together for fun and food. Peggy was the best Wife, Mom, Mother-in-law, Grandma, Aunt, Cousin and Friend and will be terribly missed by her family and all that knew her.
She is survived by her husband Alan; daughters, Ali Stufflebean and husband Curt of Buhler, KS, daughter Amanda Palmer and husband Wade of Adair, OK. Grandchildren Cody Stufflebean, 18 and Wade Palmer, 6.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Doris Horton, baby sister Connie Sue and several Aunts and Uncles.
