Wilma “Jean” Anderson, 97, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023. She was born on July 8, 1926 to Gus and Mildred Wandersee, of Dwight. Jean married Vernon “Shorty” Anderson on April 9, 1949 at Marion Hill Lutheran Church. They raised three sons together; Gary, Junior, and Rick on the family farm outside of White City for 60 years before Shorty passed. Jean continued to live on her own with her dogs up to the day she passed away.
Jean loved all animals but had a special place in her heart for Westies, Scotties, Airedale’s and Yorkies. She always had at least two dogs at a time to share her love with. Jean was also
passionate about flowers. Her favorite time of the year was flower planting season and she loved to take multiple trips to town to buy flowers for her house. Back in the day her flower gardens were something to see, and you could always find her out planting. When she got older and couldn’t plant as much she enjoyed sitting by the heater and reading hundreds of books. Jean lived a full 97 years and was loved deeply by all her family. She will be missed but we find comfort knowing she is reunited with Shorty.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Melvin Wandersee and sister Norma Folk.
Jean is survived by her children, Gary (Wanda) Starr, Council Grove, Junior (Terri) Anderson, Rick (Jeanne) Anderson, White City; her grandchildren, Brenda (Dan) Brookhart, Florida, Chad Starr, Council Grove, Clayton Starr, Carbondale, Bailey (Tyler) Parker, White City, Becky (Chance) Hager, Paola, and Jake Anderson (Hannah Nelson), White City. She also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren and one more to come in February.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, October 1st at Marion Hill Lutheran Church at 11:30 am with a light lunch to follow at the church.
Memorial contributions can be made to Marion Hill Lutheran Church in care of Sawyer Funeral Home.
