Wiletta Kay Lewis

Wiletta Kay Lewis, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, at the age of 59.

Wiletta was born on April 13, 1966. She was known for her deep love of the outdoors, a passion that began while growing up on the family farm.

She found great joy in tending to her summer garden and could often be found in the hen house collecting fresh eggs. Bird watching was one of Wiletta’s greatest passions. She had an incredible ability to identify countless species across the Midwest and loved sharing that knowledge with others.

Wiletta graduated high school with the Class of 1984 in Emporia, KS. She helped her mom in the Americus Grocery Store for many years.

Wiletta was a devoted Christian whose faith was an important part of her life and the way she cared for others.

Wiletta is survived by her mother, Roberta Kay Lewis of Dunlap, Kansas; her brother, Jim Lewis (Traci) of Olpe, Kansas; her niece, Sarah Randall (Cody) and great-niece Harper of Shawnee, Kansas; her niece, Meranda Kaufman of Moundridge, Kansas; and her nephew, James Lewis of Osage Beach, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her father, Wilferd Lewis of Dunlap, Kansas, along with numerous aunts and uncles.

Wiletta will be remembered for making friends wherever she went and for finding simple joy in everyday moments outdoors. Her kind spirit, strong faith, and love of nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Sawyer Funeral Home, 137 N Union, Council Grove, Kansas. Graveside services will follow in Emporia, Kansas at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
