Velora Goss died on June 24, 2024 at Holiday Resort Care Home, Emporia, KS. She was 95.
She was born March 1, 1929, in White City, KS; daughter of William and Clara (Freeman) Pearson, the fifth of six children.
Velora married Ervin Wayne Goss on January 11, 1949. He died on December 3, 1993.
Surviving family members include four sons: Lynn (Joyce), Ray Joe (Cindy), Loren (Donna), and Rex Goss; (8) grandchildren, and (17) great grandchildren.
Velora was preceded in death by her husband, parents, (1) brother (Ralph Pearson), (4) sisters; Lauretta Bax, Myra Weaver Smith, Faye Matthews, and Scherill Stammers.
Velora was a teacher for a couple years at the Blue School, South of Dwight, KS. She was a secretary for numerous years. She had been a volunteer at Morris County hospital, she played piano for weddings, numerous funerals, church services and Eastern Star events as well as Daughters of the Nile. She crocheted many many afghans for church events, family, and friends. Velora was a member of the Dwight Presbyterian Church, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of the Nile, and VFW Ladies Auxiliary.
Velora donated her body to KU medical center for research and learning about human anatomy.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Dwight Community church, Dwight, KS.
A “Celebration of Life” will take place after visitation, at 11:00 A.M., also at the Community Church.
Memorial contributions can be made to American Legion Auxiliary, Order of Eastern Star, and/or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. They may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
