It is with profound sadness and much love that the family of Valerie McRae Young announce her passing on December 12th, at the age of 66. She was a “Daddy’s Girl” and went to see him on his birthday.
She will be lovingly remembered by her children Allison Blankley (George), Jesse Young, and Remington Young; granddaughters Paige Blankley (Logan) and Raegan Sparks; and great grandsons Kaiser and Dawson. She will also be dearly missed by her sister Vicki McRae and Al McBee; nephews Ace and Charmetra Finch and Broc and Riley Finch; niece Auriella McBee; great nephew Mac Ray Finch; aunt Carolyn Wilson; cousins Amy, Becky, Sandi, Rachel and families; ex-husband Mike Young; and soul sister Cheryl VanFossen.
She was preceded by her ever so loving parents Bob and Charlene McRae; uncle Jim Wilson; and grandparents Charlie and Lila Taylor.
Valerie was born and raised in Council Grove, where she attended school, worked many years at the nursing home and is best known for working beside her lifelong friend Tom Furman, serving the best burgers and drinks in town.
Valerie was a member of the Berean Baptist Church. She was the rock for her grandchildren. She picked up the pieces for so many and will always be known for blessing Remington and Kaiser her pride and joy with stability and love.
A private service will be held at the family’s request. Memorial contributions may be made payable to Care and Share and sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
