Thomas E. Alexander

Thomas Ernest Alexander was born December 4, 1945, in Emporia, Kansas to Robert and Georgie (Bolen) Alexander. He grew up on old Highway 4 where his family homesteaded and was raised as a ranch and farm hand during his youth. He was very involved in youth rodeos all over the country and was a natural when it came to athletics. He was involved in everything he could be involved in from roping to the yearbook staff.

Tom attended college for a short period of time before getting home sick and saying, "Hell with this!" and moving back home. He then worked a couple of jobs, one being at the local concrete plant, until he enlisted in the US Army reserves. He, along with many other Morris County young men, were called to active duty in the late 60s. He was deployed to Vietnam and served on a bridge brigade. Once back home, he worked at the concrete plant until he started to work for Trimmell Ford, and later on at Wilson sales. He had strong friendships with both companies which meant a lot to him.

After retirement he drove a bus and would work for USD 417 until he could no longer drive long distances. Aside from his children, his passion and drive in life was performing. He was the lead singer for the very successful cover band Midwest Railway Band for over 30 years. Some of his fondest memories and friendships were developed during this era.

He was married twice, raised six kids, and was blessed with 13 grandchildren. Tom was more than proud of his family, and that was his number one priority.

He is proceeded in death by his parents and sister Vicky. He is survived by all of his children, grandchildren, a sister, brother, in-laws, and tons of nieces and nephews and a community of dear friends.

Tom used to say.... You don't have to look very far to see someone doing with less.... Be grateful, whatever it is... it's not that bad.

A visitation will be held at 10:00am, Friday, May 29th, at the First Congregational UCC, and a Celebration of Tom’s life following at 11:00am.
