Sylvia Rose Woodruff-Brown
Born February 25, 1949 of Ohio, passed away at home, January 4, 2026 in Council Grove, Kansas under the love and care of her loved ones, husband (married in October 2020): Bill Brown, daughter: Bridget Soucy and all her fur babies (5 rotten dogs and 2 rotten cats, all spoiled).
Sylvia was one for adventures. She came out to Council Grove to help care for Max Keiffer’s mom, Jane. By the time they passed, Sylvia had integrated into the CG community and loved it. She had so many people she cared about, friendships and even family-like support system, that she stayed here in Council Grove.
She had many different jobs in her life, but her favorite was being a mom. Here in Council Grove, she worked at Apple’s Market, the elementary school, and what most of you all will remember, she owned and operated the Clothesline, laundry mat. She loved that place. She had her birds there and welcomed others to bring in their animals for spoiling also. I am sure many of you all could share stories about mom at the laundry mat with her birds.
Sylvia had a compassionate and caring soul. She contributed many ways and just as many times to the Council Grove community. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed visiting the Senior Center, listening and sharing stories with others.
She loved playing lottery scratchy cards! She would call me her visiting luck. I would leave and she would win. Sometimes not more than a hundred dollars, but she would win. One time she called me after I had left, I had made it to 335 heading to Leavenworth, and she told me that she had won a big one and would need a ride to Topeka to get the winnings.
In lieu of flowers to the family, contributions to your local animal shelter in memory of Sylvia would be a blessing.
