Steven Zerbe

Steven Craig Zerbe was born May 25, 1954, in Herington, Kansas to Leland Carl and Shirley Jean (Gehrke) Zerbe.  After a four-year battle with cancer, Steven passed on March 1, 2024, at his home.

Steve grew up in Council Grove and graduated from high school in 1972.   He enjoyed the friendship of his classmates and helped make sure his class always had a class reunion. He graduated in 1976 from Kansas State University with a degree in agriculture and watched many great Wildcat basketball games.

While at college, he met a special young lady, Claire Myers, who he spent the rest of his life with. They lived on a farm east of Council Grove for over 47 years where they raised their two daughters, Jamie and Lisa.   Claire and Steve enjoyed the country life and time they spent together.

Over the years Steve enjoyed his Allis Chalmers tractors, driving his first one at age 4 and last one in October 2023, which happened to be a tractor Steve had owned for over 50 years.

Steve was a member of the First Baptist Church. He has always had a strong faith in God, our father and maker.

Steve is survived by his wife Claire and brother Mark Zerbe, daughters: Dr. Jamie Cunningham and husband Loren, and Lisa Zerbe; and grandchildren: Aubrielle and Xavior.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held on March 23, 2024, at First Baptist Church at 11:30pm. Visitation will follow at 12:00 – 2:00.

A private burial was held at Templin Cemetery.

Donations are suggested to First Baptist Youth Group and may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, Kansas 66846.
