Stephen Warren Dix

Stephen Warren Dix, age 77, of Wilsey Kansas, passed away at home due to Pulmonary Fibrosis disease January 15, 2025 with his wife and sister by his side. He was born in Herington, Kansas December 19th, 1947 to Warren and Lorraine (Wiggans) Dix. He grew up on a farm just outside Delavan and attended grade school there and then Wilsey High School graduating in 1965. Steve was married to Megan Baker on December 8, 1972. They celebrated 52 years of marriage this past December. She survives of the home.

He is also survived by daughter Sarah DeMars, grandsons Cooper and Graham of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho and his sister Marsha Hensley of Council Grove. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends of 50 plus years, Don and Judeen Bachura. Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and son-in-law Sean DeMars.

Steve was a down to earth guy who grew up on the farm where he helped milk the cows, put up hay, and learned the value of hard work. He developed a love of anything mechanical, especially those with wheels. Cars, tractors, bicycles and especially motorcycles provided many hours of pleasure for Steve. Upon graduation from high school, Steve attended Vo tech in Wichita where he focused on learning to work on automatic transmissions. He worked at several car dealerships while living in Wichita. He also joined the Army Reserves during that time. After moving back to Delavan from Wichita, Steve began to work construction with his dad and for over 25 years built custom homes or remodeled older homes. When his body began to tell him it was time to give up construction he began working for USD 417 as maintenance director and then Morris County Hospital until his retirement in 2017. Shortly after retiring he received the Pulmonary Fibrosis diagnosis. The disease progressively worsened, limiting his physical activity.

He began racing motorcycles in his early 20's riding motocross and hare scrambles at tracks around Kansas and Oklahoma. He was a member of the Kansas Motorcycle Sportsman Association for many years. Steve and Megan also owned and operated Council Grove Cycle Sales for several years. He gave up racing when he was almost 60 and classic cars then filled his spare time until his health prevented him from doing so.

The family will hold a graveside service at the Delavan cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 500 Chicago, Illinois 60611 or Hand in Hand Hospice, 1201 W. 12th Ave, Emporia, KS 66801.
