Shirley Lou Baker, 95, of Council Grove died Monday, March 20, 2023 at Morris County Assisted Living where she had made her home for six and a half years. 

 

Shirley was born in Simpson, Kansas, September 23, 1927 to Ralph Prickett and Keturah (Rathbun) Prickett the third child of five. She graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1945 and then attended business school in Topeka. Shirley held several secretarial jobs throughout her life working at Fairmont Foods, Council Grove Chamber of Commerce, and Flint Hills Special Education Cooperative in USD 417. Shirley married Bernard Baker June 15, 1947 at the Simpson United Methodist Church in Alta Vista. Bernard and Shirley spent all their married years living in Council Grove.

 

Shirley is survived by daughters Megan (Steve) Dix,Wilsey and Mindy Baker-Glessner (Tony) Council Grove, daughter-in-law Terri (Jef) Baker, grandchildren Sarah DeMars, Amanda (Jesse) Otte, Stacy (Lance) Vernon, Brooke (Jake) Reaves, Morgan Baker, great grandchildren Cooper DeMars, Graham DeMars, Lucy Vernon, and Hunter Reaves, sisters Sharon (Glen) Carlton and Molly (Bill) Ledeboer, and several nieces and nephews.

 

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother David Prickett, sister Lorraine Joy, husband Bernard, son Jefry Dana Baker and son-in-law Tony Glessner. 

 

Shirley was cremated. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bowers Center, PO.Box 144, Council Grove, or Morris County Care and Share, P.O. Box 1, Council Grove  KS 66846.
