Sarah Angeline Rohling, 97, of Maple Hill, formerly of Council Grove and White City, Kansas, passed on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in Topeka, Kansas. 

Sarah was born on September 26, 1927, in Wichita, KS to William H. and M. Angeline Jones. She was raised in Mount Hope and graduated high school in 1945. She then worked in Wichita before marrying Harold Edward Rohling (Sr.) on 11/4/1947 in Colwich, KS. To this union were born 4 children. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold Edward, Sr. and their sons, (Harold) Edward, Jr. and Arlo Fredrick. She was also preceded in death by her brothers: Wilford, Walter, Kenneth, and Glenn; and a great-granddaughter. 

She is survived by her children and their spouses: Janis Louise Rowland (Francis Eugene) and Keith Alan Rohling (Karen Sue); her daughter-in-law Carol Jean Rohling (Edward); her 6 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Sarah was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and their Altar Society in Council Grove. 

Harold and Sarah’s early farm life was in Colwich and Rock, KS. They moved to White City, KS in the late 1950’s (1958/59), where they operated a Class A dairy operation for many years before changing their operation to dairy and cattle.

In the 1970’s she petitioned the Bishop to open St. Theresa’s chapel in White City, where Sunday mass was held for many years. Sarah was the editor of a small newspaper in White City.

After rearing her children, Sarah became licensed as an insurance agent. Later she earned her real estate license and operated her own brokerage. She continued to sell real estate and then served as one of the first licensed certified general appraisers in the state of Kansas. Sarah enjoyed being around and meeting new people. 

Sarah moved to Council Grove in 2002, where she continued her real estate appraisal business, finally retiring on her 80th birthday. In 2010, she moved to Maple Hill to live closer to her daughter Janis and son-in-law Francis. Sarah continued her interest in real estate by attending every open house in Maple Hill. She was instrumental in starting the Facebook group, Maple Hill Happenings. Sarah was active at Maple Hill Senior Center participating in their meal program, dance/exercise classes, and games. She especially enjoyed the Friday afternoon Scrabble game.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5–6, with Rosary at 6:00. Friday, January 31, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Parish Hall. Funeral services will be held at 10:00, Saturday, February 1st, also at St. Rose Parish Hall. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Rose Catholic Church or Maple Hill Sr. Center. They may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
