Mary Gloria Hall

Our mom, Mary Gloria Hall, age 91, passed away peacefully amongst friends and family on August 20, 2023.  Mom was born in Council Grove on September 15, 1931, to Marguerita R Alvarado and Martin G Alvarado.

Besides being known for her ability to cook the best Mexican food in Morris County, she worked for several different restaurants as cook, server, or dishwasher. But most notably as owner of The Hilltop Cafe in Council Grove until 1993. Our mom was known for her open heart and acceptance of others. She opened her home to anyone that needed a meal, a bed to sleep or just a place to visit. 

Mom is preceded in death by her mother, Marguerita (Granny) Alvarado; her father Martin G Alvarado; brothers Patricio Alvarado, Luciano Alvarado, and Martin Alvarado; 3 sons, Donald Washburn Jr, Dulan Washburn, and Richard Washburn; grandsons Nathan Davis, Michael Washburn, and Scott Divelbiss-Hall; as well as many, many friends.

Mom is survived by her sister Mary E Aguilar of Emporia; sister-in-law Phyllis Alvarado of Emporia, her husband Arnold R Hall Sr of Cottonwood Falls; 4 sons Kenneth (Jan) Washburn of Elgin, IL, Jose Washburn of Council Grove, Arnold Ray Hall Jr (Jill) of Manteo NC and George Hall of Council Grove; 3 daughters Mary E Washburn, Tammy Muller (Richard), and Deborah Hall all of Council Grove; 29 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; great great- grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Rosary will be recited at 6:00, Monday, August 28, 2023, with visitation from 6:30 to 7:30, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Funeral services will be at 10:00, Tuesday, August 29^th, also at St. Rose. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
