Marvin Ellis Larson was born on March 4, 1943, to Mildred and Kermit Larson in Marquette, KS.  He passed away peacefully on April 1, 2023, with his loving wife and children by his side.

 

Marvin was baptized on July 22, 1943, at Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette where he was raised.  He graduated from Marquette High School in 1961 where his football team went undefeated and unscored on for the season his senior year.  He attended Hutchinson Community College graduating in 1964 with an associate in arts Degree.  While in college, he enjoyed being on a Billiard’s team.  He enlisted in the Navy and served from October 1965 through October 1969, serving in Vietnam from 1966-1969.  After the Navy, he was employed by the Missouri-Pacific Railroad (later known as Union Pacific) in 1970 and after 30 years he retired.

 

On May 13, 1972, Marvin was united in marriage to Sandra Thomas in Council Grove, where they resided. They renewed their vows on their 25th wedding anniversary and celebrated their 50th in May 2022.

 

After retirement, Marvin and Sandy enjoyed traveling with family and friends.  He enjoyed metal detecting and finding treasures as well as gardening.  He could be seen every morning at the Saddle Rock big table enjoying coffee.  He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Brotherhood of Signalman.  Marvin’s utmost enjoyment was watching his grandkids play sports. 

 

Survivors include his wife Sandy; son Mike Larson (Aleasha) of Wamego; and daughter Patricia Villalobos of Council Grove; grandchildren:  Bailee and Grant Larson, Isabell Villalobos, Augustus and Weston McKinney; brother Darwin Larson, AZ; sisters-in-law: Jan Larson, NM, Linda Stewart, Beverly Kraus and Ruth Scholes; brother-in-law Alvin “Bud” Thomas, all of KS;  several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

 

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4-6, Thursday, April 6 at Sawyer Funeral Home. Memorial service will be at 11:00, Friday, April 7, also at the Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at Dwight Cemetery. 

 

Memorial Contributions may be made to Flint Hills Rebuilders, Accord Hospice or any charity of your choice sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
