Marilyn Annette Ziegenhirt

January 4, 1939 — March 23, 2022

Marilyn Annette (Roberts) Ziegenhirt, 83 of Emporia, Ks went to be with the Lord on March 23, 2022, in the home of her daughter’s house while surrounded by family.

 

Marilyn was born on January 4, 1939, in Council Grove hospital to Homer and Mary (Hooper) Roberts of Alta Vista.  Marilyn grew up on a farm South of Alta Vista and went to a one-room schoolhouse till 8th grade.

 

Marilyn graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1957 and she married her high school sweetheart, Carl August Ziegenhirt Jr. on October 27, 1957.  They farmed after his service in the Navy for about 20 years, then moved to town in 1979. Marilyn worked as a librarian for Alta Vista Elementary School for 23 years.   They were married 47 wonderful years before Carl passed on October 20, 2004.  They were active members at Pleasant Ridge Christian Church as Marilyn played the piano for many years.  

 

Marilyn had many gardens thru the years.  She canned fruits and vegetables, made her famous red cucumber pickles for all the grandkids and enjoyed working outside weeding the garden or helping Carl.  They enjoyed playing cards with family and get-togethers with family and friends.  She was always cooking something and made sure everyone had plenty to eat at family gatherings.   She loved family gatherings and lived for time to spend with her 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.  

 

Preceding in death were her parents and siblings, sister Fern (Roberts) Axe and her husband Clifford of Desert Shores, CA, brother Calvin Roberts and his wife Doris of Valley Center, and brother Lynn M. Roberts of Emporia. 

 

Survivors are sister-in-laws:  Clara Roberts of Emporia, Linda Clough, Jo Ziegenhirt both of Alta Vista and ZoAnn Gugenhaun of Randoph, Ks. Surviving children are:  daughter Carla (Ziegenhirt) Chase of Emporia, son Donald Ziegenhirt and his wife Christy of Council Grove and daughter Cindy (Ziegenhirt) White of Emporia. Surviving grandchildren are:  Michael Chase of Emporia, Mark Chase and his wife Natasha of Emporia, Jana (Chase) Phillips and her husband Justin of Tribune, Ks.  Derek Ziegenhirt of Overland Park, Casey (Ziegenhirt) Cowdin and her husband Troy of Council Grove, Jacob Ziegenhirt of Manhattan, Danielle Andersen of New Hampshire, “Remy” Rachael Andersen of Maine and Jacquelyn Andersen of Omaha, Ne.  Surviving great-grandchildren are:  Jackson and Jacelyn Phillips of Tribune, Aryona and Tagen Zimmerman, Mason and Nellie Chase of Emporia, Braxton and Vaylen Srack of Salina. 

 

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 27th from 4:00-6:00pm, at the Council Grove Christian Church.  Funeral services will be Monday, March 28th at 10:00am, also at the Christian Church.  Burial will be immediately following the service at the Alta Vista Cemetery.  Please allow traveling time as Hwy 177 will have detours on country roads North of Council Grove.  Memorial contributions may be made to Marilyn Ziegenhirt Memorial Fund, which will be designated later.  To share a memory or message visit www.sawyerchapel.com.
