Lola L. Phillips began her 88-year journey in life on January 9, 1937 and passed quietly in Morris County Hospital on August 4, 2025. She was the daughter of Elmer and Opal Belt born in Council Grove, Kansas. She had twelve siblings, Ethel, Lorenzo, Elmer (Jack) Francis, Stella, Walter, Iila Mae, Freda, Ella Nadine, Erma, Mary Josephine, Johnie, and George.
Lola went to Fairview School and Council Grove High School. Lola married Billy Joe Phillips in 1953 and together they had eight children. Survivors include her children: Pam Block (Kevin), Russell, Jeffery, Bradley (Barb), Jody, Patty Cosgrove (Dave) and Penny Garber (Wes); Sixteen grandchildren; and twenty-two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Billy Joe and son Randy Phillips.
Besides being a homemaker, Lola worked at the Hays House and Diversicare. She retired from working at the Rest Home in Council Grove and rode with Bill when he drove his eighteen-wheeler. She ran their motel in Arkansas City when they lived there. She became a member of The First Congregational Church in Council Grove in 2024.
She enjoyed reading the bible, singing hymns and talking to friends, family and going to reunions. She will be missed by many.
A Memorial Service will be held at The First Congregational UCC in Council Grove on Monday, September 1, 2025 at 10:00am. Inurnment will follow at Wilsey Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Council Grove Senior Center or The First Congregation Church.
