LeRoy Lorne Buchman

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and grandfather, LeRoy Lorne Buchman.  LeRoy was born on October 19, 1951.  He passed away peacefully at the age of 71 at his home on September 1, 2023.

LeRoy is proceeded in death by his parents, Alois Lorne Buchman and Harriett Wilma Akin.  LeRoy is survived by his children, Bevan (Rachel) Buchman, Brook Avery and Ashlynn Buchman; brothers Dennis (Shari) Buchman and Kenneth Buchman, grandchildren; Hunter, Kevin and Mellissa, stepchildren; Phillip, Margaret and Merick (Mary).  LeRoy is also survived by many nieces, nephews, step grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other family members.

LeRoy graduated Council Grove High School in 1969.  He was a member of the track team and played coed softball well into adulthood, having his own team called Buchman, Inc. Softball Team.  LeRoy immediately joined the National Guard and became a tank commander.  He retired with full honors.  LeRoy was also a skilled welder and worked at Sauders in Emporia and later retired at Caterpillar.  LeRoy was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He was a founding member of the Santa Fe Trail Bow Hunters Club.  You could always find LeRoy on the banks of a river or at the lake with a pole in the water.  He also loved music and dancing.  He was an expert swing dancer and two stepper.  His favorite band was CCR and Midwest Railway Band.

LeRoy will always be remembered as a devoted family man with a big sense of humor and a passion for the outdoors.  He loved to share this passion with his grandson Hunter, who loved spending time with his Papa.

Leroy will forever be missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Morris County Hunters Education Program. They may be sent to the care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.  LeRoy was an avid outdooutdoors man with a passion for hunting and fishing. The program will help by providing opportunities for youth in the community to find their passion for hunting and the outdoors.
