Leland Kent Scott, 77, a 35-year veteran of the Topeka Fire Department, resident of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away June 6th at Morris County Hospital. Memorial services will be held at 11:00am, Friday, June 16, 2023, at Victory City Church, 2622 SE 6th St., Topeka, Kansas. Inurnment will follow at Meriden Cemetery, Meriden, KS, with military honors.

Leland was the son of Chester Martin and Evelyn (May) Scott. He was born July 8, 1945, in Topeka, KS. He attended Topeka Public Schools, graduated from Meriden High School in 1963 and later attended Washburn University. He was a United States Navy Veteran and served during the Vietnam Conflict. He married Christine Bottom and they had a son Martin, they divorced. He married Donna Hazen and they had a daughter Amy and they divorced. He married Dale Devine, she passed away in 2018.

In December 2020, Leland married his high school classmate, Ruth Randolph Norris. Leland accepted her children and families as his extended family. He was a member of Victory City Church. He worked at the church camp and became known as the Trackless Train Conductor. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ted Scott and wife Dale A. Scott.

Leland is survived by his wife Ruth, of the home; son Martin Scott (Tamara) of MO; daughter Amy Scott (Melvin), of Wichita; stepsons Chad Flesher (Nikki) of Burton and Jason Flesher of Emporia; sisters Dale Scott Kooser of Washington and Kathleen Gerhardt (Ed) of Topeka.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Neonna Jones, Jake Bird, Kale, Seth and Noah Flesher, Joshua Laizure, Mirra, Kenya and Erinae Flesher; great grandson Franklyn Flesher; nieces and nephews; and Ruth’s daughters Genea Hernandez, Robin Courtot and Susan Williams and their families.
