Jimmy Ray Fetters

Jimmy Ray Fetters; also known as Buddy and Chief to many, 78, of Dwight Kansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 28, 2023 at Morris County Hospital from health related issues.  He was born December 1, 1944 in Abilene, TX to Jimmy James Fetters and Alice Gonzalez. Jimmy grew up in the west TX panhandle where he met the love of his life, Gracie Louise Massingill, in Clarendon, TX. They were married on January 15, 1962 in Memphis, TX. Jimmy joined the US army in 1964; he did several tours overseas including two tours in Vietnam. His duties included: door-gunner in Vietnam, diesel mechanic, and retired as military police. He was highly decorated over the course of his military career including the Vietnam Service Medal with four bronze stars, National Defense Service Medal, a Purple Heart and several others.  He retired in 1984 after 20 years of service. After military retirement, he worked as a project manager on Fort Riley, he was a self-employed auto-mechanic, he worked on a harvest crew, and as a mechanic for Myers Ready Mix Concrete. Before he fully retired, he also drove a truck over the road for many years. Jimmy enjoyed wood working, jewelry making, fishing, hunting, barbecuing and a glass of whiskey.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Gracie Louise, his parents, grandparents, sisters: Beatrice, Gertrude, Margie, and a brother Brian Jr (Hap). Jimmy is survived by five children: Randy Fetters & wife Sandy, of Dwight, JP Fetters & wife Elaine, of Manhattan, Becky Anderson of Dwight, Julie Howard & husband Kurtis, of California, Missouri, and James Fetters & wife Leslie, of Council Grove; grandchildren: Randy Fetters, Jr., Bo Fetters & wife Jamie, Zachary Anderson & wife Ashley, Samantha Fetters, Jordan Fetters & fiance' Leslie, Emily Fetters, Alex Fetters, Josh Reasoner & wife Sarah, Dusty Reasoner, Dillon Reasoner & wife Tara, Tory Gettman & husband Phil, Trevor Howard & wife Olivia, Tristin Fetters, Tre Fetters & fiance' Kaylee, and Trinadee Fetters; great-grandchildren: Shaylee Fetters, Gracie Fetters, Julian Fetters, Riley Fetters, Jameson Fetters, Ariella Morganfield, Mason Fetters, Aubrey Reasoner, Tegan Reasoner, Bayden Reasoner, Isaac Reasoner, and Harvin Reasoner, Oliver Reasoner, Emma Anderson, Harper Anderson, Wyatt Anderson, Benaiah Gettman, Boaz Gettman, an baby Fetters due in August; sisters: Mary Jane Reisert & husband Ed, Alice Jo Lantz & husband John; brothers: Jim Rob & wife Suzan, Ricky Fetters & wife Karen; and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 10:00am on Friday, May 5, 2023, at the Dwight Cemetery in Dwight, KS, with pastor Chris Carlson officiating.
