Donald Eugene Zimmerman

Donald Eugene Zimmerman, 75, of Alta Vista, KS passed away early Monday, April 22nd, 2024 at Lexington Park Assisted Living Facility in Topeka, KS.

He was born August 6th, 1948 at the Geary Community Hospital, the son of Harris Zimmerman and Virginia (Olsen) Zimmerman.

Donald went to a one room school located east of Alta Vista, until second grade. He would then go to Alta Vista Grade School and graduated from Alta Vista High School in 1966. From there he went to college at Emporia State Teachers College where he earned his Bachelor Degree in Business.

Donald worked at the Kansas State Bank in Manhattan, Kansas. He then would work at Kansas Instruments in Council Grove and would eventually retire from Morris County Hospital in Council Grove.

Donald spent his free time square dancing with the Manhattan Squares. He could also be found mowing people’s lawns in Alta Vista, helping at the Senior Center or down at the Barnyard Cafe.

His favorite pastime would be spending time with his family and working on the family farm. On May 13, 1972 he was married to Marcia Woodworth at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta Vista. Even though they were later divorced, they stayed close because of the three children they had together.

He is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey Zimmerman McFarland, KS, Justin Zimmerman (Patrick Wilson), Wylie, Tx; daughter Melissa Duncan (Justin), Topeka, KS; two brothers Kenneth Zimmerman (Donna), Shawnee, KS, Roger Zimmerman, (Angelina) Alta Vista, KS; seven grandchildren, Constance Zimmerman, Xandria Gent, Lucas, Claire, and Isabelle Duncan, Austin Griffin, Alex Wilson; 4 great grandchildren.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be held at Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Alta Vista on Friday April 26th at 10:00 am. Interment following at Alta Vista Cemetery.
