Donald E. Hamilton, 91, of Council Grove, Kansas, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022.
He was born in Kansas City, Kansas on July 27, 1930, to Glenn W. Hamilton and Estelle (Hoggatt) Hamilton, who preceded him in death.
Don married Helen (Morgan) Hamilton on February 7, 1953, who preceded him in death in 2016.
Don proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp where he fought in Korea, receiving the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star of Valor. Don retired from the railroad after many years.
Don, along with his wife Helen, were long time residents of Council Grove Lake and spent their winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. They both were members of St. Rose Catholic Church, where Don was a member of The Knights of Columbus.
Don will be lovingly remembered by his children: Donna (Andy) Murray, Laurie, MO, James (Joni) Hamilton, Herington, KS, Vickie (Donald) Nadler, Grain Valley, MO, and Kenny (Michele) Hamilton, Odessa, Mo; along with 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Glenn G. (Betty Jo) Hamilton, Overland Park, KS, Kenneth Hamilton, Newman, GA, Betty Jean Bowdre, Merriam, KS and Glenda Gayle Grantham, Atchinson, KS.
Services will be held at St. Rose Catholic Church, Council Grove; Rosary will begin at 6:30 with visitation from 7:00 to 8:00pm, on Thursday, May 12, 2022; Funeral Mass at 10:00am on Friday, May 13, 2022. Entombment will follow the mass at St. Phillips Cemetery, Hope, KS.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Phillips Cemetery or St. Rose Catholic Church and may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
