Delma Boyer

Delma Jean Boyer joined her Savior peacefully on March 5, 2026, in Council Grove, Kansas. She was born Delma Jean Comp on Christmas Day in 1925 southwest of White City, KS, in the Red Top community. She grew up on the farm of her parents, J. Howard and Marie Henry Comp, along with her two sisters, Doreen and Myra. She began her education in a one-room schoolhouse at Red Top, and graduated Valedictorian of White City High School in 1943. After taking normal training during high school, she was hired at 17 years old as a schoolteacher in Wilsey, KS, where she taught fourth through sixth grades.

It was during her time as a schoolteacher that she met Harry Campbell while he was home on leave from the Army Air Corps, and they began corresponding by letter. During this time she attended business college in Hutchinson and was employed part time by the Carey Salt Company.

After Harry returned from his service in WWII, he and Delma married on June 2, 1946, and the couple settled down and purchased a small acreage with a service station west of Council Grove, KS. Delma assisted her husband in running the service station, and they also started a small cattle dairy, selling fresh milk in glass bottles. It was while living here that they welcomed their daughter, Elaine Marie Campbell, on February 26, 1949.

In 1961, the building of the new highway 56 forced the couple to close the service station and relocate their dairy to the home where Delma lived at the time of her passing. Delma lost her husband, Harry, to ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) on November 21, 1978, leaving her to manage the farm and household. She sold the cattle and took an office job with the Council Grove Telephone Company until she remarried.

On August 29, 1981, Delma married Oliver Boyer in a small ceremony in Council Grove, KS. Together they enjoyed traveling extensively, visiting 49 of 50 states as well as Canada and Mexico. Oliver preceded her in death on March 24, 2003.

Throughout her long life, Delma’s strong faith was the central foundation. She began teaching children’s Sunday School classes when her daughter was in fourth grade and continued for over 40 years. Later she taught adult Sunday School until 2020.

Delma filled her days with needlework, reading, playing cards, and volunteering, including at Friends of the Library and the Community Thrift Store well into her 90’s. Delma lived independently at home until immediately preceding her death.

Delma was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Doreen Tiller, husbands Harry Campbell and Oliver Boyer, step-son Dale Boyer, and son-in-law Jay Puckett. She is survived by her sister Myra Bouck of Lake Forest, CA, daughter Elaine Puckett of Council Grove, KS, step-daughters Carol Downes (Bill) of Council Grove, KS, and Janice Purcell of Texarkana, TX, granddaughters Amber Kovac of Kansas City, KS, and Tara Thomsen (David) of Council Grove, KS, grandson Quinten Puckett of Holton, KS, and great-grandchildren Danica, Harlow, Thea, and Henry Thomsen and Cora Emera and Riley Wendy Kovac.
