Dawn G. Nace Reynolds, 90, of Waterloo, Iowa passed away Saturday, February 24, 2024, peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Born Dawn Gayleen Nace, March 10, 1933 on the family farm near Dwight, Kansas. She was the daughter of William “Bill” and Frances (Frese) Nace.
From the time she could get from the house to the barn, there she was with her beloved horses. Anytime her family couldn’t find her, they looked in the barn. She had a real connection with horses and would nuzzle up to them any chance she could.
Dawn graduated from Dwight Rural High School in 1951. She attended Kansas State University. Dawn married a Kansas, Melvin Wyatt Reynolds in 1953. They moved to Waterloo, Iowa where they raised five children. Although they lived in Iowa, they were always Kansans at heart.
She loved music, was an avid reader and wrote a monthly newsletter, “The Reynolds Wrap” for many years. She also wrote a true story, “A Pony, a Puppy and a Chocolate Pie” about her fifth birthday.
Dawn was well known for her love of horses and had many stories of her horses and other pets that she grew up with on the farm. She loved to draw and passed that love on to her children. She loved playing cards with her family and anyone else who would play.
They attended St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo for many years. Dawn was an active member of the Legion of Mary, offering support and care to the elderly living in the community and in nursing homes.
Dawn Is survived by her husband of 70 years, Melvin Reynolds of Waterloo; 5 children: Boyd (Darlene) of Strawberry Point, Wyatt (Susan) of Norman, OK, Tammy (Joan) of Rochester, NY, Richard of Kansas City, MO, and John of Kansas City, MO; brother, William “Gene” Nace of Topeka, KS; granddaughter, Kelsy (Ruben) Sanchez and 2 great-grandchildren, Olivia and Owen Sanchez.
