Darrel Nielsen

Darrel Herman Nielsen,74, of Dunlap, Kansas, passed away July 2, 2026, at the Morris County Hospital. He was born to Dale and Frances Nielsen on May 6, 1952.

He grew up in Dunlap going to school and learning his love for farming from his father. He was a farmer and trucker. He then worked for William’s Fertilizer for a long period of time, before working with a harvesting crew until he retired. Darrel loved fishing and enjoyed riding his side by side, often taking the back roads to visit family and friends.

Darrel married Janice Walls and they had three children: Jennie, Damon and Micheal.

He is preceded in death by Dale and Frances Nielsen.

Darrel is survived by his wife Janice; children, Jennie (Bill) of Hackworth, MO, Damon (Amy) Nielsen, of Dunlap, and Micheal (Adam) Gasche, of Allen; brother David Nielsen, of Dunlap; sisters, Karen (John) Bishop, of Emporia, and Kala Wengler, of NE; 8 grandchildren: and 4 great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. A celebration of Life will be held at 9:30am, July 18th at the Americus Cemetery, with lunch to follow at the Dunlap Gym at 11:00.
