Curt Eugene Brammer

Curt Eugene Brammer Sr., 63, Council Grove, formerly of Wilsey Ks., passed away Feb.1 2025, after a long, courageous and hard battle with lung cancer.

He was born July 5, 1961, to O. Eugene and Irene Pearl Kissel Brammer at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was the youngest and only boy born into a family of 5 children.

Curt and his family owned and operated a large crop and livestock farm, known as OEB Herefords located between Topeka and Silver Lake Ks. Their cattle production and quality were known state wide. Due to the time, effort and dedication, Curt was needed on the farm after school. This lead to him being unable to participate in after school sports. However, when he was able to attend a home football/basketball game, you could find him more than likely riding around in an old truck, cruising back roads with his buddies, creating their own type of sport. In his high school years, he had a wild and free spirit, that no one could tame.

Curt was active and a member in many clubs and organizations throughout his life. Growing up, 4-H was a vital and very important part of his family. Even after all these years, he would still occasionally see a few people from his days of showing Herefords and swine, and strike up a conversation like it all happened yesterday. In adulthood, he was a member of the Wilsey Lions Club, before they disbanded, the Wilsey Volunteer Fire Dept., Abate of NE Ks., BACA, Tri-Co Free Fair Demolition Derby and his all time favorite, playing Santa Claus to the Council Grove and surrounding areas. He thoroughly enjoyed it, helping to bring the magic of Christmas to both young and old.

Before his health worsened and he wasn't able to ride anymore, he had and still did, have a passion for motorcycles. The louder and faster, the better, was his motto. "Loud pipes, save lives". Harley Davidsons were his choice of motorcycles but he would ride anything with two wheels and a motor. One of his most cherished memories, is the day he bought and drove off the show room floor, a brand new 100th Anniversary Harley Davidson. "Ride to live, live to ride" was tattooed on his arm.

It was in Council Grove that he met Toni Kinish and they married in Wilsey on March 17, 1991. With the exception of a few years spent living in Topeka in the early years of their marriage, they made their home in Wilsey, until he moved to Council Grove in 2020. To that union they welcomed three children.

Curt held employment in a variety of different areas. He drove a semi, doing long hauls before wanting to work closer to home. He then worked at USD 417, Rays Apple Market, Quality Profile Inc and BP. He enjoyed working and visiting with people and worked up until he physically was unable, even then, he cut back to part time until he was fully disabled.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, two sisters, Marcia Brammer and Linda Moore, and two brother-in-laws Mark Edwards and Ed Lansbury.

He leaves behind his wife Toni Brammer, daughter Samantha (Jake) Kempher, Lyons Ks., son Dalton (Courtney) Brammer, Lebo Ks., son CJ Brammer, Wilsey, sisters Gloria Lansbury and Vickie Edwards, both of Herington Ks., and four Grandchildren, Miracle and Stryker of Lyons and Aiden and Jaxson of Lebo. Curt also left behind his Santa Claus legacy.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial contributions be made to Sawyer Funeral Home, with his name on the donation. All monies received will be donated to the Council Grove Area Foundation Convention and Visitor's Bureau, where they have set up a new fund to help with the expenses of having a Santa available for Candlelight Charm and other town events during the holiday season.

A celebration of life will be held Feb 22, 2025 at the Wilsey Community Building, from 11am-3pm. It will be a come and go affair with a lunch being served, complete with many desserts, as Curt did enjoy his sweets. Attire is requested by family, to come in what you feel comfortable with, whether it be your Sunday best, or just coming in from the field. Please plan to attend his Celebration of Life, share memories, meet old and new friends or even talk about the weather. Mostly, family would like you to sign his motorcycle gas tank, which he will take on his last ride, with his boys.
