Billy George Metcalfe, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Billy George Metcalfe Sr., lovingly known as "Billy Boy," who peacefully passed away at his home on November 11, 2024, at the age of 82.

Billy was born on October 21, 1942, in Dunlap, Kansas, where he grew up and attended Dunlap High School. He spent over 30 years as the devoted ranch foreman for Tom Moxley Ranch, embodying hard work and dedication in everything he did.

On April 13, 1960, Billy married the love of his life Mary Minor, sharing 64 beautiful years with her. Together, they raised four children: Anita (Kevin) Deters, Bill (Laura) Metcalfe, Debra (Mitch) Lofton, and Tammy (John) White. Billy was a proud grandfather to 16 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 25 great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by his wisdom, humor, and loving guidance. 

Survived by his brother Clifford (Barb) Metcalfe, niece Brenda and her husband Curtis Repp, and many cherished nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Viola Piper Metcalfe, along with siblings Junior, Phillip, Violet, Ben, August, Carol, Steve, Larry, and Randy. Billy is now reunited with those he loved dearly, including his fur babies, Levi and Precious.

Billy’s passions were as big as his heart. He loved fishing, farming, and spending time with family on vacations, riding his favorite horse, Doc, around the farm, and playing games of Wahoo and Spades. An expert tinkerer, he loved to fix anything and was known to strike up a conversation with anyone, often leaving them with a good, long chat or a hearty laugh—sometimes both. He was an inspiring role model for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, always showing them the value of hard work, kindness, and joy.

In his small town of Dunlap, Billy’s presence was a blessing. He served as mayor for four years, and one year for Christmas, he delighted local children by playing Santa Claus, handing out candy.

A visitation will be held Thursday, November 14th, from 5-6:30 at Sawyer Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at Dunlap Cemetery, Friday, November 15th, at 11:00. A celebration of Billy’s life will be held at the Dunlap Gymnasium, immediately following graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Billy's honor to St. Jude's, a cause he frequently donated to. 

Billy’s legacy lives on in the love he shared, the family he adored, and the countless lives he touched. May his memory be a blessing.
