Barbara Ruth (Briggs) Farwell died May 28, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Alta Vista, Kansas, at age 95. She was born on March 4, 1928, to William and Elva Briggs in Brockton, Massachusetts. She attended Easton Schools and earned a GED later in life.
She married Charles Henry Farwell, of Brockton, MA in 1944. She settled in Morrisville, PA after extensive travels with Chief MST SGT Charles Farwell, living and visiting several states and overseas assignments, which included Turkey, Japan, Thailand, and Germany.
She was widowed in 1994 and settled in Pennsylvania with her mother who was 100 years of age when she passed. Barbara sang in the Unitarian-Universalist Church Choir as a teenager and was an active member at Morrisville Senior Center and Summerseat. Barbara was an avid quilter, she made 92 quilts and donated one a month to Quilts for Kids. She enjoyed reading and solving cryptograms. Barbara loved spending time with her family, and recently vacationed with her daughter, son, and granddaughters in FL.
She was a member of the Unitarian-Universalist Church at Washington Crossings, Titusville, NJ. She was employed at Vipco & CO Inc. for 13 years and Cridge for 7 years, retiring at age 70.
She is survived by son Lawrence Robert Farwell and Joanna, of Rhode Island and daughter Linda Jean Pape and Richard of Alta Vista, KS; grandchildren: Laura Marie Webb (Jason), Samantha Lynn Burton (Steven), Vicky Lee Swisher (Chad), Valerie Lane Goin (David), and Hannah Saltonstall-Farwell, 8 great-grandchildren: Daisha and Derrick Bolinder, Megan and Mallory Burton, Jaycie and Kallie Jo Swisher, Tayvin Kabutu; and nieces Wendy Miller and Cheryl Briggs.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Unitarian-Universalist Church or the Morrisville Senior Center. They may be sent in care of Sawyer Funeral Home, PO Box 273, Council Grove, KS 66846.
A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held at a later date.
