Obituary

Harold Anderson, White City, KS. passed away at the age of 88,Thursday, December 5th 2019 in Manhattan, KS.  Harold was born March 11, 1931 in White City to Harold and Gladys Anderson.  Surviving him are his wife of 63 years, June Anderson (Wettig) of the home; Daughter Kimberly Lester (Vernon) of Sperry, OK; Sons Todd Anderson (significant other – Shelly Flores) of Manhattan, KS and Troy Anderson (Sally) of Berryton, KS; Four Grandchildren – Tyson Anderson (Jamie), Kylee Christenson (Cameron), Taylor Anderson, and Matthew Lester (Destinee). Three Step-Grandchildren – Aaron Walker, Hannah Walker, and Caleb Walker; and 3 Great Grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.  Harold married his high school sweetheart, June Wettig on June 24th, 1956 in the White City United Methodist Church.  He was very proud of his family, friends, and military service. He lived in White City virtually his entire life except for the 4 years he served in the Air Force, two years of which he was stationed in Alaska. Upon his discharge in 1954, Harold returned to White City and purchased E.G. Larson Lumber and Hardware, changing the name to Anderson Lumber and Hardware, and owning/operating it for 35 years.  While operating the business, Harold also was employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a substitute rural mail carrier for 28 years.  Upon selling the business, he served as the full time carrier for 3 years before retiring.  Harold was very active in the community serving numerous years on the City Council; briefly as Mayor; on the fire department, ambulance service and various other community organizations.  He was a proud, 65-year member of the White City American Legion and a member of the Freemasons.  Family, friends, God, music and traveling were special to him.  He enjoyed singing and playing music with his friends in a band and in his “Pickin’ Shack”.  His sense of humor, smile, and good nature will be dearly missed.  He was known for his cheerful attitude and always had a joke or story at the ready.   Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the White City United Methodist Church or the White City American Legion.
